Ingredients:

For the Cabbage Rolls:
  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground pork (or use more beef)
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
For the Tomato Sauce:
  • 2 cans (14 ounces each) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Cabbage:
  • Core the cabbage and place it in a large pot of boiling water for about 5-7 minutes. This will help you peel off the leaves easily. Remove the leaves and set them aside.
2. Prepare the Filling:
  • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, cooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, salt, pepper, and paprika. Mix well.
3. Assemble the Cabbage Rolls:
  • Take each cabbage leaf and place a portion of the filling in the center. Roll the cabbage leaf around the filling, tucking in the sides.
4. Make the Tomato Sauce:
  • In a separate bowl, mix together crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, brown sugar, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
5. Layer in a Baking Dish:
  • Spread a thin layer of the tomato sauce on the bottom of a large baking dish.
  • Place the stuffed cabbage rolls seam side down in the baking dish.
6. Cover with Sauce:
  • Pour the remaining tomato sauce over the cabbage rolls, ensuring they are well-covered.
7. Bake:
  • Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the cabbage is tender.
