Pepperoni Pizza Casserole

A cheesy casserole with all of your favorite pizza toppings. I like to serve this with a salad and garlic bread. The leftovers are great. I have prepared this in advance and then taken it to potlucks in a slow cooker the next day.

I made this for supper and my family loved it. I used Italian sausage instead of ground beef and angel hair pasta in place of the egg noodles. I also used pizza sauce instead of spaghetti sauce. Will definitely make it again.

I initially found this recipe on facebook the other day and gave it try tonight. I excluded the black olives and mushrooms. I did use a pound and a half ground beef and precooked the noodles. Didn’t seem to be a problem doing it that way. Really enjoyed it.

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground Italian sausage
  • 1 (24 oz) jar of your favorite marinara or pizza sauce
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup sliced pepperoni
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the pasta according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onions and garlic, and sauté until they become translucent.
  4. Add the ground Italian sausage to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spoon, and cook until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  5. Stir in the marinara or pizza sauce, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer the sauce for about 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  6. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta with the sauce mixture. Mix well to ensure the pasta is evenly coated.
  7. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the pasta mixture. Sprinkle half of the shredded mozzarella cheese and half of the sliced pepperoni over the pasta.
  8. Repeat the layers with the remaining pasta, mozzarella, and pepperoni. Top the casserole with grated Parmesan cheese.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the casserole is heated through.
  10. If desired, garnish with fresh basil or parsley before serving.
