Instructions
Activate the Yeast:
In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
Mix the Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and oil. Stir until the mixture comes together.
Knead the Dough:
Gradually add the remaining flour, a little at a time, until the dough is no longer sticky. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
First Rise:
Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
Shape the Loaf:
Punch down the risen dough to release the air. Transfer it to a floured surface and shape it into a loaf. Place the loaf in a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.
Second Rise:
Cover the loaf with a towel and let it rise again for about 30-45 minutes, until it puffs up.
Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Bake:
Bake the bread for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
Cool:
Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Tips:
For added flavor, you can mix in herbs, garlic powder, or cheese before kneading.
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or freeze for longer storage.
Enjoy your homemade bread!
