You might think oyster crackers and sweet snacks have nothing to do with each other, but you would be mistaken. See, you can take an oyster cracker (or a whole bunch of them) and with a few ingredients and a little baking, turn it into something very much resembling a bite-sized churro. Who would have thought? But believe it – these Sweet and Salty Churro Bites are an irresistible, all-too-poppable sweet snack.
More or less, what you’re doing here is coating the oyster crackers in a hot caramel mixture before dusting them with cinnamon and sugar. It’s easy. And it’s delicious.
You’ll bring butter and brown sugar to a boil on the stovetop and after two minutes remove it from the heat and stir in some cinnamon and vanilla.
Then you just pour it alllllll over the oyster crackers…
… And mix it all together with a rubber spatula until it’s well coated.
Ten minutes in the oven crisps everything up and caramelizes things a bit further…
… And then you sprinkle it all with plenty of cinnamon-sugar.
They have that dusting of cinnamon-sugar coating like a churro, they have the crunch of a churro… they’re a bite-sized little churro-inspired delight. Churros and oyster crackers? Who knew!
